This completely NEW for 2008-9!!!course will overview some current topics of the professional conversation on this topic including; incidence and prevalence information, historical perspective regarding legislative efforts to intervene on domestic violence in the US, and the consequences of these legislative actions. Special populations/topics that are increasingly exposed to family violence discussed in the study include; human trafficking, immigration issues and teen dating violence, assessment and resources.

Purpose: This offering is developed to provide content update in domestic violence issues. Domestic violence has been identified by many states as an under identified and under assessed problem, it is the intent of this offering to provide information that will permit effective and early identification and assessment of domestic violence problems.

Note: If you are considering this course for initial licensure Domestic Violence course requirements please order the Domestic Violence Core Course, Domestic Violence: The Basics or the Florida Initial Licensure Combo Course. This is an appropriate and approved course to meet Florida license renewal requirements for domestic violence education for psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors as well as other allied health professionals.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to discuss incidence and prevalence of domestic violence in US.

  2. Participants will be able to list two critical advances against domestic violence in the last decade.

  3. Participants will be able to describe the barriers to women in effective management of domestic violence.

  4. Participants will be able to discuss the special problems of same sex violence

  5. Participants will be able to discuss the fastest growing populations affected by domestic violence.
