Behavioral Health Practice
Errors:
This 2-hour medical errors
class provides information on root-cause analysis, error reduction and
prevention and patient safety in behavioral healthcare practice. JCAHO and state
reporting standards and error reduction practices are reviewed. The offering
will include factors that contribute to the occurrence of behavioral healthcare
practice errors, how to recognize at-risk situations, protocol to improve
patient outcome, reporting responsibilities, and patient safety. Patient rights
and other public education concerns will be addressed.
Objectives:

Florida Ethics & Statutes
Affecting the Practice of Psychology
This offering
meets the following Florida content requirements for ethics instruction on
professional ethics and Florida statutes and rules affecting the practice of
psychology. This
offering presents the decision steps for the resolution of ethical dilemmas as
developed by Corey, Corey and Callanan in their book the Fourth Edition of
Issues and Ethics in the Helping Professions. Definitions of ethics and ethical
behavior are discussed and comparisons and contrasts with ideals, and principles
are made. This session is structured to permit practicing psychologists, mental
health professionals, substance abuse, forensic and domestic violence
professionals to utilize steps in ethical decision making about ethical
dilemmas. Codes of ethics of a number of national professional associations, and
state licensed professions will be used for demonstration in an experiential
hands-on exercise to aid in utilizing the decision-making steps in the process
of attempting to resolve participant’s current ethical questions. Purpose: The
purpose of this study is to acquaint practitioners with the underlying
principles that guide all codes of ethical conduct and be familiar with the code
of ethics for their profession. Further, to assure that practitioners are
familiar with decision-making steps for evaluating ethical dilemmas.
