Beginning with an overview of theories explaining sexual deviancy the offering examines high risk factors for offending. The scope of sexual deviancies is discussed. Statistics about perpetrators and victims provides participants with a perspective on the prevalence of sexual abuse problems in our society. Elements important to the prevention of sex offences, methods for handling sex offence incidents, what constitutes sexual abuse including touching and non-touching behaviors, and behavioral signs that children may be abuse victims are covered. Purpose: This offering is intended to familiarize practitioners with the basic curriculum on sexual abuse and trauma. A foundation of theoretical information equips counselors with the various explanations being considered in the field for why these problems occur. The risk factors, and signs and symptoms modules should equip counselors to identify and assess more accurately for sexual abuse issues.
