This offering is a core curriculum offering for individuals wishing to complete addictions certification education requirements. The content in the offering includes the National Institute on Drug Abuse Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment: A research-based guide and three therapy manuals entitled: A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach: Treating Cocaine Addiction; A Community Reinforcement Plus Vouchers Approach: Treating Cocaine Addiction and An Individual Drug Counseling Approach to Treat Cocaine Addiction: The Collaborative Cocaine Treatment Study Model. All the models focus on treatment of cocaine addiction; however, we believe the information is generalizable to all substance dependency disorders. The first model describes a cognitive-behavioral approach. The second integrates a voucher incentives feature, which may help involve reluctant, more chronic users to remain in treatment long enough to start an abstinence-based lifestyle. The third represents an individual counseling approach with a behavioral focus that is a more traditional addictions intervention with a 12-step emphasis. This offering is part of a multi-part series on counseling models for addictions treatment.
