A minimum of five registrants is required to hold the course. Registrants for classes that do not meet the minimum will be transferred to the next live class of their choice. Class roster is monitored 30 days prior to the class date.  If there are not 5 registrants at that point the class is cancelled and transfer emails are sent. Note: This course is approved for supervisor qualification in the state of FLorida and in partial fulfillment of the educational requirements for the AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation and the NBCC approved supervisor designation. Learners must also obtain Issues in Supervision Two (14 CE Credits) to complete the NBCC/AAMFT education requirements.

A two-day workshop to meet the Florida regulatory requirements (*F.A.C. 64B4-6.0025). Applies to licensed mental health professionals who provide supervision to candidates for licensure (LMFT, LCSW, LMHC) and for any others who wish to enhance supervision skills in professional practice.  The course will familiarize participants with current models of supervision. A thorough discussion of five dynamics of supervision is presented. Special issues including context, culture, gender, race, class, financial, legal and ethical considerations will be discussed including literature reviews and study findings. This program is additionally useful for any counseling professional who supervises staff that provides counseling in mental health, substance abuse, criminal justice, and domestic violence settings. 

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the axioms of several models of supervision.
  2. Participants will be able to identify their therapeutic style and compatible supervision model
  3. Participants will articulate their supervisory model and be able to discuss various dynamics of supervision and therapy consistent with this model.
  4. Participants will be able to discuss special issues including context, culture, ethnicity, gender, evaluation and legal and ethical considerations of supervision.
  5. Participants will demonstrate elements of their supervisory model and style.

Training Agenda:

Hours One-Four:

Overview of history of supervision, supervision definitions, models of supervision, Theoretical orientation, and Supervision philosophy

Hour Five - Eight: Discussion of supervision dynamics including Isomorphism, Power, Shared Meaning, Dual Roles, and Trust

Hour Nine-Twelve: Discussion of issues and study findings re: context, culture, ethics, legal and regulatory, financial, risk management, class, race, gender, sexual orientation

Hour Thirteen-Sixteen: Participants share outline for philosophy statement and present elements of their supervisory model and style
