Florida Psychology CE Requirements Combo-Pack One: This 7 CE combo includes Behavioral Health Practice Errors, Ethics and Statutes Affecting the Practice of Psychology: Ethical Decision Making and Domestic Violence Update.
Behavioral Health Practice Errors: This 2-hour medical errors class provides information on root-cause analysis, error reduction and prevention and patient safety in behavioral healthcare practice. JCAHO and state reporting standards and error reduction practices are reviewed. The offering will include factors that contribute to the occurrence of behavioral healthcare practice errors, how to recognize at-risk situations, protocol to improve patient outcome, reporting responsibilities, and patient safety. Patient rights and other public education concerns will be addressed
Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to list types of errors/situations in behavioral healthcare.
2. Participants will be able to discuss root cause analysis in investigation of practice error.
3. Participants will be able to identify specific behavioral health practice errors and safeguards
4. Participants will be able to implement patient education and safety planning steps.
5. Participants will be able to describe reporting and documentation responsibilities in the event of practice errors.

Hour One: Overview of purpose: Department of Health: FS 456.013, Reporting and Documentation Risk Terminology; Standards for Patient Safety (JCAHO), Risks in Ambulatory Health Care Root-cause analysis
Hour Two: Types of errors and causes/situations Using Patient Outcome Information to Improve Patient Care Safeguards, Patient Education, and Safety Planning.
Florida Ethics & Statutes Affecting the Practice of Psychology: Ethical Decision Making: The course meets the Florida CE Requirements for Ethics and Statutes for psychologists. The purpose of this study is to acquaint practitioners with decision-making steps for evaluating ethical dilemmas. The course discusses the principles underlying all codes of ethical conduct in the behavioral health professions. Distinctions are made between terms as they pertain to ethics. Several models for making decisions in ethical dilemmas are presented and discussed. The Florida Board of Psychology requires a 2 CE credit continuing education course on topics concerning ethics and a 1 CE credit on Statutes. This course is the first of several that will be available through Program Services Continuing Education approved to meet this requirement.
Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to define ethics.
2. Participants will be able to discuss the seven principles informing the code of ethics.
3. Participants will be able to identify areas of common unethical behavior.
4. Participants will be able to list nine common excuses for unethical behavior.
5. Participants will be able to discuss ten barriers to ethical decision making.
6. Participants will be able to describe and utilize five decision making models for resolving ethical dilemmas.

Hour One: Definitions and principles informing counseling ethics, Four areas of common unethical behavior, Excuses for unethical behavior.
Hour Two: Ten barriers to ethical decision making, Decision making models.
Hour Three: Statutes and regulations affecting the practice of psychology.
Methods: Study guide, pre and posttest, and evaluation (Q & A by e-mail).
Domestic Violence Update: This NEW! course will overview some current topics of the professional conversation on this topic including; incidence and prevalence information, historical perspective regarding legislative efforts to intervene on domestic violence in the US, and the consequences of these legislative actions. Implications for both hererosexual and same-sex couples are discussed.
Purpose: This offering is developed to provide content update in domestic violence issues. Domestic violence has been identified by many states as an under identified and under assessed problem, it is the intent of this offering to provide information that will permit effective and early identification and assessment of domestic violence problems. This is an appropriate and approved course to meet Florida license renewal requirements for domestic violence education for psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors as well as other allied health professionals.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to discuss incidence and prevalence of domestic violence in US.
Participants will be able to list two critical advances against domestic violence in the last decade.
Participants will be able to describe the barriers to women in effective management of domestic violence.
Participants will be able to discuss the special problems of same sex violence.
