FOR FIRST TIME LICENSEES TO MEET DV EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
An introductory domestic violence course to satisfy the Florida CE requirements for Psychologists, School Psychologists Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors and Nurses. Also satisfies the domestic violence requirements of other states as well.
Description:
This introductory domestic violence offering presents the legal and operational definitions and terminology commonly used re: domestic violence populations. Recent statistics on prevalence and incidence are presented. A brief understanding of the Duluth model of Domestic Violence Intervention will preface more in depth examination of batterers, and victim profiles, typology and other descriptive information. An overview addressing intervention strategy, current treatment options, and cross-disciplinary interface will be discussed. The session concludes with a risk analysis paradigm for understanding and developing working interventions with victims of domestic violence.
Note: This offering meets required curriculum for Florida Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors, and other health professionals in Florida. Also meets requirements for other states as well.
Purpose: This offering is developed to provide content basics in domestic violence issues. Learners will be familiarized with common terminology used to describe those involved with domestic violence, fact and myths surrounding this population, types of abuse, intervention strategies used with batters, profile information for use in assessment of both victims and perpetrators, and safety assessment. Domestic violence has been identified by many states as an under identified and under assessed problem, it is the intent of this offering to provide information that will permit effective and early identification and assessment of domestic violence problems.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to define at least four terms specific to domestic violence.
Participants will be able to list and describe the eight components of the power and control wheel as per the Duluth Model for Domestic Violence Intervention
Participants will be able to list and describe the eight components of the equality wheel as per the Duluth Model for Domestic Violence Intervention
Participants will be able to identify examples of physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and profiles of batterers as well as abused partners.
Participants will be able to differentiate between four types of batterers.

Agenda:
Hour One: Define four terms specific to domestic violence Identify statistical information; present the eight components of power and control wheel and the eight components of the equality wheel/ Duluth Model.
Hour Two: Typology of batterers, profiles of victims and perpetrators, examples of abuse,emotional sexual, etc., risk analysis paradigm.
