Description
Three of the six classifications of psychoactive drugs are presented (stimulants, depressants, and cannabis) including medical uses, street names, signs, and symptoms of low, moderate, and high doses, and including long term effects. Statistical information on costs to society including, crimes, traffic consequences, social problems, and health concerns are discussed throughout the class. The information additionally contains evidence-based risk and protective factors found to be relevant in prevention efforts with youth.
Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to discuss signs and symptoms of stimulants intoxication, abuse and dependency
2. Participants will be able to discuss signs and symptoms of depressant intoxication, abuse and dependency
3. Participants will be able to discuss signs and symptoms of and cannabis intoxication, abuse and dependency
4. Participants will be able to identify effects indicating overdose, detox or withdrawal for stimulants, depressants, and cannabis
5. Participants will be able to discuss the short-term and chronic use effects of the abuse of stimulants, depressants and cannabis

Hour Three: Signs and symptoms of cannabis
Hour Four: Distinguishing between detox, withdrawal, intoxication, abuse and dependency
Purpose: Practitioners at all professional levels will be able to observe for signs and symptoms indicating substance misuse of stimulants, depressants, and cannabis
